Aisha Ali:  12:00 to 1:30pm  (Ballroom B)
The Golden Age of Raqs Sharqi $47
The dance we know as Raqs Sharqi or “Oriental dance,” developed in Cairo during the 1930s and 1940s during the new era of Egyptian film musicals. It had evolved from the baladi dance performed by professional public entertainers known as Ghawazi and Awalem and eventually became refined for a more sophisticated urban audience. Because many dancers in the Western world first learned the dance from Egyptian movies, Aisha will concentrate on teaching the movements and mannerisms popular between the 1940s thru the 1970s, which was the golden age period for this dance form. The 90 minute workshop will cover: •Baladi movements and their transition to raqs sharqi •Incorporating “Oriental” arm and hand movements from India, Persia and Uzbekistan. •Dancing barefoot versus dancing with heels. •The veil as an extension of body movement. •Performing on stage as opposed to in a salon, or street dancing. *Performing for the camera. •Allowing the music to dictate your choreography and understanding the power of non movement. •Accenting with the eyes, neck, shoulders, rib cage, abdomen, pelvis and hips. •Why less can be more.

Jayna Manoushe:  12:30 to 1:30pm  (The Suite)
"Counts of Eight to set you Straight" $27
Ever get that feeling when you're improving that you are doing the SAME MOVES over and over again? Well, you're not alone! Having an arsenal of "go-to" mini combos can really come in handy to a beginning Bellydancer, or even the seasoned pro, when performing on stage to live music or casually on the dance floor. You will leave Jayna's class having learned a handful of short, valuable choreos and foot patterns that can be applied to a variety of music that will have you feeling confident and never stranded on the dance floor again!

A fun and informative class for all levels, from beginner to professional.
